Stencil Tile Backsplash

August 7, 2020

Earlier this year, I toyed around with tiling our “breakfast nook” and got as far as ordering samples. I envisioned a pistachio green wall for that retro flare to match our KitchenAid appliances.

Fast forward 4 months: I finally did something about it, but not in the way you’d expect! I used the tile stencil and gallon of Saybrook Sage that I got for the bathroom because let’s be honest, we still have no idea how big the bathroom refresh/reno will be.

For those of you who don’t know, I put “breakfast nook” it in quotes because it’s a former breakfast nook that is now an extension of our kitchen.

The Process

I used this tile stencil and a pouncer from a previous project. There’s not much explaining to do other than carefully lining up each pattern using a level. I was able to stencil the edges by bending the stencil, but had to hand-paint the corners and areas that needed touching up.

I will say that I’m so glad I didn’t do this for the One Hour DIY project; it took a lot longer than expected. Stenciling is cheap and fun but it can get very tedious, depending on the design. The fern leaf stencil wall I did was a lot easier since it wasn’t a strict tile pattern.

      Hi Amy,

They are gray BODBYN doors from IKEA!

What is your ceiling light? Is it something that had a glass shade that you removed? It’s very interesting! Love the stenciled wall too.

      Hi Judy,

It’s the ATERSKEN ceiling lamp from IKEA. We had to remove the glass to change a light bulb and hadn’t gotten around to replacing it! Thanks for reading!

      Best,
      Heena
