Minimalist Floating TV Stand

November 11, 2021

This blog post is sponsored by Dutch Boy® Paints. All opinions are my own.

Wow, it’s been a while since the blog post! It’s somehow snowing again and the days are getting so darn short. We are putting our hectic summer and fall behind us and I am finally back with a DIY project to share. Our living room has changed so much over the past year. One curvy mustard sofa, two vintage mauve chairs, and a Frame TV later, we finally have a TV stand we love! This simple hack that came to life with Dutch Boy® Paints—let me tell you all about it.

The Paint

I went to the local Menards store to check out the Dutch Boy® Paints 2022 Color Trends. It was so tempting to choose the color of the year, Cypress Green, but I wanted to keep things fairly neutral given the strong colors in our living space. One of the other colors in the Color Trends palette, Warmed Silver, was perfect for that slight contrast against our white brick wall.

I went with the Dutch Boy® Platinum® Plus paint in the eggshell sheen for this project. While I love a matte finish, eggshell feels so much nicer on cabinetry and other furniture that are frequently used. This was my first time using Dutch Boy® products. I was a bit skeptical about the primer + paint combo at first, but it went on beautifully by itself on the sanded surface. No issues with peeling, and the coverage was great! Also, their Twist & Pour container was a game changer. I loved not having to grab a slotted screwdriver at the last minute and the pouring was so easy.

The Cabinet

I chose a floating TV stand since we have a bar cabinet on the same wall in the adjacent room. Two console/bar tables at similar heights felt odd next to each other. After using similar cabinets (see materials below) for our built-in bench, I jumped at the opportunity to them again!

This time, I used the shallow 23″ 5/8 x 8″ 5/8 x 15″ cabinets. Unfortunately, they were only offered as singles, so I screwed two of them together using the predrilled holes. Then I gave the outside a quick sand down to prep it for painting.

The Reveal

I am very happy with how this TV stand turned out! It’s simple, functional, and just what I was looking for. We took this project slow and stretched it out over a week or so, but it can definitely be finished within a day if you have all the materials ready to go.

Let me know what you think of our new TV wall in the comments below!
