With the mood-boosting sunshine this past weekend, we got into a major productive mode and worked on our master bedroom refresh! I previously wrote about our plan for the bed area involving olive greens, blacks, and gold accents here. Another area we needed to consider was this little corner next to the stairs. To keep the whole room cohesive, we thought an olive green color block with open shelves would help bring this neglected space back to life.
Our first task was picking the paint color. I went into the store with Behr’s Outdoor Oasis and Secret Meadow in mind, but they were lighter and brighter than what I had envisioned.
I narrowed my choices down to Truly Olive, Eastern Bamboo, Amazon Jungle, and Russian Olive (left to right). The photos below show them in different lighting: against the white wall in the corner and against the green wall behind the bed.
I ruled out Russian Olive first since it was darker and cooler than what I was looking for. Eastern Bamboo was warmer and more green, but still too dark for our dim attic bedroom. While it was a close call between Amazon Jungle and Truly Olive, I felt that the latter had the yellow undertones that gave it the true olive green look. See what I did there?
Next, we played around with some shapes and realized how tricky it was with our sloped ceiling. We originally played around with a column idea but ended up embracing the slope. Once I got everything taped and ready to go, I may or may not have started painting at 9 pm on a school night…

I touched up the edges with white paint before moving onto the shelves. We picked out these shelves from Target, which went perfectly with our light wood dresser and black accents in the room.
And voilà, this is the final look!
